Thinking of picking up a new pickup? While there are plenty of solid options out there, two pickup trucks often top the list of the best pickup trucks, especially in Columbia, SC: The GMC Sierra 1500 PRO and the Ford F-150 XL. Both vehicles are titans of their class, but unless you want to purchase both, you’ll need to settle on the one that will give you the best return on your investment.

In this GMC Sierra 1500 vs. Ford F-150 faceoff, we’ll look at the starting trims of both vehicles to see which one gives you the most bang for your buck and can tackle tough jobs. Let’s get started.

GMC Sierra 1500 vs. Ford F-150: Specs

Both vehicles come equipped with powerful standard engines that achieve similar results. The Sierra opts for a turbo four-cylinder, while the F-150 delivers a V-6; however, bigger isn’t always necessarily better. Let’s look at the numbers.

GMC Sierra 1500 PRO

  • Engine: 2.7L turbo four-cylinder
  • Horsepower: 310
  • Torque: 430 pound-feet
  • Rear-wheel drive (RWD)
  • 8-speed automatic transmission
  • Max towing: 9,000 lbs.
  • Max payload: 2,230 lbs.

Ford F-150 XL

  • Engine: 2.7L EcoBoost V-6
  • Horsepower: 325
  • Torque: 400 pound-feet
  • Rear-wheel drive (RWD)
  • 10-speed SelectShift automatic transmission
  • Max towing: 7,400 lbs.
  • Max payload: 1,775 lbs.

Just because the F-150 has a bigger engine doesn’t mean it can do more. Yes, it has more horsepower, but that really only applies to top speed, and unless you want to take your truck to the track, the 15 extra horsepower doesn’t amount to much. On the other hand, torque is very important for acceleration and towing. Those 30 extra pound-feet of torque in the GMC Sierra 1500 PRO come in handy, as the numbers show. You get a higher payload capacity and towing capability. If you need a vehicle to work, the Sierra 1500 is a powerhouse.

GMC Sierra 1500 vs. Ford F-150: Interior and Tech

Both vehicles have similar interiors with cloth and vinyl seating, though admittedly, the Sierra’s interior looks a bit more upscale, while the F-150’s interior looks a bit more utilitarian. That is to say, it’s a bit bland, but functional and will get you through the day. However, if you like a better view in the cabin, the Sierra takes the cake.

Both vehicles have Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™ for listening enjoyment and navigation, as well as USB ports to keep your devices charged. Both vehicles also feature an available Wi-Fi hotspot if you need to do work on the go. If you plan to haul anything, we recommend grabbing the trailering package for extra tech perks.

GMC Sierra 1500 vs. Ford F-150: Safety

The 2026 Ford F-150 hasn’t been rated for safety yet, though it’s likely to receive the same score as the 2025 model: five stars from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The GMC Sierra received the same score for the 2025 and 2026 models.

Both vehicles feature robust safety suites with driver assistance features, including:

  • Forward collision warning
  • Lane departure warning
  • Auto high beams
  • Pedestrian detection
  • Driver attention alert
  • Seatbelt pretensioners
  • ABS brakes
  • Available blind spot monitoring
  • Available lane keep assist
  • Available rear parking sensors
  • And more

GMC Sierra 1500 vs. Ford F-150: Which is Better?

Looking at the specs and nicer interior, the GMC Sierra 1500 is the victor. It’s got more capability than the F-150, and we didn’t even mention one of the biggest selling points: it’s more affordable. The F-150 starts at $39,330 MSRP; the GMC Sierra 1500 starts at $38,300 MSRP. So, for more power, a nicer interior, and an overall stunning-looking vehicle, the GMC Sierra 1500 beats out the Ford F-150.
