While this motor provides ample power and efficiency for the smaller GMC truck, the Sierra 1500 has far more available power with its upgraded engines, allowing it to handle much heavier workloads. It’s also the only option of the two if you need a diesel truck.

The Canyon’s TurboMax engine allows it to tow up to 7,700 pounds when properly equipped. While this isn’t as much as bigger trucks like the Sierra, it’s still more than comparable trucks like the Tacoma and Ranger, making the Canyon a solid frontrunner in its class.
As you’d expect, the Sierra’s powerful engines and larger size allow it to haul more. With the TurboMax engine and proper equipment, it can pull as much as 9,500 pounds, and the Duramax diesel motor allows it to tow a maximum of 13,200 pounds.

The exterior dimensions are the most obvious difference between the pair—the Sierra 1500 is considered a full-size truck, while the Canyon resides in the mid-size truck segment.
